The notebook represents a journey into the memory of those who live in San Berillo, a neighbourhood in the centre of Catania, which, over time, has become a place of welcome for many people who live in conditions of great fragility. The residents of the neighbourhood and the organization team were invited to freely interpret and translate their relationship with the neighbourhood in creative language to express what it means to live daily in these streets and to experience the presence of Trame today. It is a timeless story which speaks of the past and the present in an overlapping of interpretative levels and emotional geographies.
TRAME DI QUARTIERE today is a Community Social Cooperative. Since 2012 as a research group and since 2015 as an association, it has promoted and facilitated practices of action and research on the territory, mainly in the context of the San Berillo neighbourhood. It aims to trigger, through the reactivation of abandoned spaces (as in the case of Palazzo De Gaetani, now home to Trame di Quartiere), collaborative and cooperative processes of participation of inhabitants and citizens in the creation of new housing and economic opportunities, to lay the foundations for an urban transformation that aims at an inclusive and cohesive city and that conceives and values diversity as resources.
